The Peace, Love, Wraparound - A Social Capital Fund helps children with mental health conditions get real support.

Children with mental health conditions want to have experiences like other children but often can’t due to funding.

The Peace, Love & Wraparound – a Social Capital Fund helps provide these children and their families with access to opportunities we often take for granted. Research shows that access to support systems produces better mental health outcomes. Wraparound is a proven service delivery strategy that differs from others by providing a comprehensive, holistic, youth, and family-driven way of responding to mental health or behavioral challenges. Wraparound puts the child or youth and family at the center of the process.

How does it work?

Children help design a Wraparound plan that reflects their ideas and objectives about what service and support strategies are most likely to help them reach their goals. Wraparound programs keep children in their communities with better outcomes at a lower cost.

How does my donation help?

Your donation will help a child build long-term relationships with friends and family, which research shows provide better mental health outcomes.

$20- Supplies required for art class
$50- Cost of local dance class
$100- Gas to drive to a family reunion
$150- Fees for local sport team
$300- A year’s worth of extracurricular activities

All activities will be applied for by a case manager. The Peace, Love & Wraparound Social Fund Committee will award the funds based on the overall wraparound plan designed with the child. The goal is to create support so the youth can have a better life.

Samantha is an 11 year old girl in the 4th grade who was removed from her bio-parents due to them struggling with addiction to substances. She was placed with her maternal grandfather who has a terminal illness. She has suffered the loss of multiple relatives who she was extremely connected to. Because of this, she suffers from severe social anxiety which prevents her from meeting her academic potential, as well as establishing and maintaining relationships with peers. She has expressed a desire to pursue dance class. Dance would help her to practice social skills while actively participating in an extracurricular activity that she shows interest in. The case manager requested 200 dollars to cover dance classes as well as the shoes and dress code required.

Case Study

Marie is a 12-year-old who was really struggling with anxiety as she was recently discharged from a mental health residential facility. She wanted to feel connected in her neighborhood and decided trying soccer for the first time was a good option. Unfortunately, Marie’s family didn’t have the money for the required soccer cleats because Marie’s mom was just starting a new job. They couldn’t afford the shoes, shin guards, a uniform and a ball. Through the Peace, Love and Wraparound fund, the case manager and family were able to go shopping and purchase the necessary equipment. The funds allowed Marie to participate in something new, learn teamwork skills, and develop friendships. Marie was very proud of her success and progress at the end of the season and expressed interest in continuing with this sport. She continues to use her equipment at home to practice and play with kids in her neighborhood.
